Unfors gets nod for dosimeter

Radiation calibration and measuring instrument firm Unfors Instruments has received Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for its Patient Skin Dosimeter (PSD). Used during long fluoroscopic and CT procedures, PSD consists of up to four small sensors connected to a display unit, according to the New Milford, CT-based firm.

The sensors can be placed anywhere on the body and leave a minimal footprint on the x-ray image, Unfors said. Each sensor will display accumulated dose and exposure time; audible and visual alarms are triggered when selected or critical dose limits are exceeded.
