Fischer goes direct in Europe

Mammography vendor Fischer Imaging of Denver has established a direct-sales network in Europe for its SenoScan full-field digital mammography (FFDM) system, replacing the strategic imaging partnerships that the company previously relied on in Europe.

Fischer has established direct subsidiaries in Germany, Italy, France, and the U.K., and has moved its European headquarters to Geneva from Vernier, Switzerland. Fischer’s MammoTest stereotactic breast biopsy system will continue to be sold by Fischer’s longtime partner, Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon Breast Care division.

Recent SenoScan installations have occurred in Germany, Italy, France, Sweden, and the U.K., the company said. In Germany, a SenoScan system integrated with iCAD’s computer-aided detection workstation was installed at the department of diagnostic radiology at the University Hospital of Erlangen in Germany. The screening system is used in conjunction with MammoTest, according to Fischer.

In Italy, the Bari University Hospital has added a SenoScan system to its breast care center, which focuses only on breast imaging with mammography and ultrasound, and serves 30,000 patients annually.

In the U.K., the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust, which comprises four hospitals, has installed its first SenoScan system. Fischer has also recently installed SenoScan systems at the Centre Rene-Huguenin in Paris and the Falun Central Hospital in Sweden.
