Italian mammography and x-ray firm IMS has sold its first Giotto Image MD full-field digital mammography (FFDM) unit in Germany. The system will be installed at the Institut für Mammadiagnostik in Esslingen, according to executives with the Bologna company.
IMS has now sold 10 Giotto Image MD systems in four countries. The system uses an 18 x 24-cm amorphous selenium detector manufactured by Analogic subsidiary Anrad. IMS is planning to start selling a prone biopsy version of the system in June, and to release a version with a 24 x 30-cm detector in October.
The system does not yet have Food and Drug Administration clearance in the U.S.
