DOBI adds industry veterans

Optical imaging developer DOBI Medical International has signed several new senior executives.

Denis O'Connor has been appointed senior vice president, sales and marketing. O'Connor, who has over 20 years of experience in the medical device and diagnostic imaging industry, most recently served as CEO and chairman of ultrasound technology developer Advanced Imaging Technologies.

In his new role, O'Connor will lead efforts to develop an international distribution network, create a support infrastructure for distributors, and implement a broad-based marketing effort for DOBI's ComfortScan breast imaging system after regulatory approval is obtained, according to the Mahwah, NJ-based vendor.

In other hirings, Bob Sohval, Ph.D., has been tapped as vice president, research and development. Sohval, who has worked in the imaging industry for more than 25 years and has held executive leadership positions in several private and public companies, will lead company efforts to complete development of ComfortScan and continue development on next-generation systems.

Dr. Angelo Secci has been named vice president, clinical research. Secci, who has worked in clinical development for the past 10 years in various university, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industry settings, will oversee all clinical research activities and will serve as the firm's medical interface to the FDA.

Also, Sal Lucia has joined DOBI as director of operations. Lucia has more than 20 years of operational experience in the medical imaging and capital equipment industries, and most recently served as director of operations for Hologic subsidiary Lorad. In his new role, Lucia will be responsible for all manufacturing activities in the U.S. and abroad, DOBI said.
