Thanks to growth in its diagnostics business, women's imaging vendor Hologic reported a 33.5% increase in revenue in its fiscal 2013 first quarter. Net income dropped, however.
For the period (end-December 29), Hologic had revenue of $631.4 million, up from the $472.7 million reported in the first quarter of 2012.
Revenue in the company's Breast Health division reached $220.8 million, up 2.5% from the $215.4 million reported in the same period last year. A 12.2% increase in service revenues from its installed base of digital mammography systems was partially offset by a 2.2% drop in product revenues.
Hologic had first-quarter net income of $3.1 million, down from net income of $20.8 million a year ago.
