This Dutch 3D software developer is making its RSNA debut in 2004, demonstrating its 3viseon workstation software that enables users to conduct advanced visualization techniques like volume rendering, MIPs, and MPRs.
3mensio has developed workstation software that runs on standard PCs with powerful graphics processing units. GPUs offer speed and programmability advantages over computer CPUs, 3mensio contends, an advantage that can be exploited for advanced 3D medical imaging applications. At the same time, 3mensio's GPU-based architecture enables users to employ off-the-shelf PCs and save on hardware costs.
Features found on 3viseon include MIPs, MPRs, volume renderings in color and grayscale, slab rendering, DICOM support, variable slice thickness, and on-the-fly image filtering. The software enables users to switch back and forth between 2D and 3D modes, and can be especially useful in surgical planning.
The company expects FDA clearance before this year's RSNA show, with availability in the U.S. and the rest of the world by the first quarter of 2005.
