RSI adds new IDL release

Imaging software developer Research Systems (RSI) has released version 6.1 of its Interactive Data Language (IDL). The new version aims to make the visualization and analysis capabilities of IDL available to new users and to grow the functionality of IDL to the meet the needs of the IDL user community, according to the Boulder, CO, subsidiary of Rochester, NY-based Eastman Kodak.

IDL 6.1 includes enhancements to the software's suite of iTools, allowing users to define and apply visualization styles, record and play back macros, view detailed audit trails, and create resizable graphics for printing, reporting, and use in software applications. A new iMap iTool allows users to work with geolocated data, including images, contours, and data imported from ESRI shapefiles, RSI said.

The new version also includes read and write support for the JPEG 2000 compression format, as well as new routines for image sharpening, hierarchical clustering, dendrite plotting, and wavelet analysis, according to the firm. Research Systems is also releasing an IDL DICOM Toolkit, an add-on module that gives users the ability to read and write DICOM files using IDL.
