Biograph highlights cardiac AI CT study

Biograph is highlighting a study showing how AI-based analysis of coronary CT angiography (CCTA) exams found elevated coronary inflammation in 42.9% of asymptomatic, low-risk adults.

The study, which used Caristo Diagnostics’ CaRi-Heart software, were posted as a preprint on medRxiv and have not yet been peer reviewed. Biograph integrated Caristo's AI technology into its CCTA program to detect early coronary inflammation and cardiovascular risk.

Among participants, 17.9% had very high inflammation in at least one major coronary artery, and about 47% of those with no detectable coronary plaque had elevated perivascular inflammation, the researchers found. Cholesterol markers, hemoglobin A1c, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, and the American Heart Association Preven risk calculator showed no correlation with the presence of coronary inflammation.

CaRi-Heart has received De Novo marketing authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Caristo’s CaRi-Plaque software for coronary plaque and stenosis analysis, which was also used in the study, is also FDA-cleared.
