Dear AuntMinnie member,
Looking for an online news resource covering last week’s Society of Interventional Radiology meeting? Look no further than AuntMinnie.com!
Staff editor Shalmali Pal traveled to Salt Lake City for this year’s show, and has filed a wealth of stories from the conference. On the practice management side, you’ll find everything from tips on launching an effective radiation safety program (click here for details) to integrating a vascular surgeon into an interventional radiology practice (click here).
In clinical news, our articles discuss presentations on the use of CT as the sole modality for preoperative imaging for abdominal aortic aneurysm (here), and patient response to uterine artery embolization (here).
One of our most current stories looks at the factors determining the success or failure of ultrasound-guided thrombin injection for pseudoaneurysms. A study from Washington state found that pseudoaneurysm size is one of the best predictors of the failure rate, inasmuch as the treatment of pseudoaneurysms with larger volumes failed more often. Click here for the details.
Another report from SIR found that uterine artery embolization (UAE) does not impair fertility. Researchers from the University of Toronto followed 550 women after UAE. A year after the procedure, 17 of the women reported 19 pregnancies. Of the 14 women who have reported live births so far, 13 had a prior history of miscarriage, implying that untreated fibroid disease may impair fertility. Get the rest of the story here.
