Video-capsule manufacturer Given Imaging of Yoqneam, Israel, reported that Cigna HealthCare has initiated a coverage policy for capsule endoscopy for two indications.
The policy covers the diagnosis of obscure bleeding suspected to be due to small-bowel disease following inconclusive conventional diagnostic tests. The insurer will also pay for the capsule's use in patients suspected to have Crohn's disease by history in which conventional tests have failed to confirm the diagnosis, Given Imaging said.
