GE Healthcare plans to reduce costs and cut jobs in 2009, as the Chalfont St. Giles, U.K.-based vendor reacts to a slumping imaging market.
The Reuters news service quotes Mark Vachon, president and chief executive of GE Healthcare's Global Diagnostic Imaging business, as saying he expects sales of imaging equipment to be down "in the midsingle digits" in percentage points in the U.S. next year, compared with 2008.
In the interview, Vachon did not provide specific details of future reductions or when they might occur.
GE Healthcare has approximately 7,000 employees worldwide.
