Industry group favors new U.S. budget

A lobbying group representing the medical device industry announced that it supports President Bush's new federal budget due to its lack of spending cuts for medical imaging services.

The Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA) division of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) endorsed the budget that President Bush has presented to Congress, according to the Rosslyn, VA-based society.

The Bush administration's fiscal-year 2009 budget proposes no further Medicare cuts to medical imaging services for seniors and other vulnerable groups, according to MITA. Imaging industry groups had been fearing a repeat of the Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) of 2005, which cut $13 billion in Medicare reimbursement for medical imaging.
