The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) has named Jonathon Leipsic, MD, as the recipient of the 2026 SCCT Stephan Achenbach Pioneer Award in Cardiovascular CT.
Leipsic is professor of radiology and cardiology and head of the department of radiology at the University of British Columbia and Providence Healthcare in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and holds a Canada Research Chair in advanced cardiopulmonary imaging.
He has published more than 1,200 papers and is recognized for his contributions to cardiac CT angiography (CCTA), fractional flow reserve (FFR), and transcatheter aortic and mitral valve replacement planning. The society said his work helped establish CT imaging as a tool for patient selection, device sizing, and complication prevention in transcatheter valve therapies.
Leipsic served as SCCT president from 2015 to 2016 and received the society's Gold Medal Award in 2019. The award will be presented at the SCCT 21st Annual Scientific Meeting on July 10 in Chula Vista, CA.
