A New York City radiologist claims he was fired after requesting to work at home due to a medical condition during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to an article published December 7 in the New York Post.
Dr. Richard Heiden has filed a lawsuit against the chair of Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, as well as New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, which operates the hospital, and Physicians Affiliate Group of New York, which staffs the hospital, according to the story.
Heiden charges that he was fired after requesting to work at home in March 2020. Heiden said he suffers from ulcerative colitis, an autoimmune disease that makes him susceptible to COVID-19. Heiden had been working at Lincoln Hospital for almost six months at the time of the request.
Instead, Heiden said his request was denied by the hospital's chair of radiology, who stated that Heiden's accuracy for interpreting medical images was below the hospital's threshold of 97%. Heiden subsequently resigned on April 2, according to the story.
Heiden is suing for unspecified damages, according to the New York Post.
