AuntMinnie.com Digital X-Ray Insider

Dear Digital X-Ray Insider,

Conventional wisdom states that the increased use of digital x-ray modalities like digital radiography (DR) and computed radiography (CR) has improved the efficiency of radiologic technologists because CR and DR have wider exposure latitude and greater dynamic range, which in theory should lead to lower retake rates.

But in practice, little research has been done to try to measure the impact of digital acquisition technologies on measures of RT efficiency like retake rates. That is, until now -- a new article we're featuring as this edition's Insider Exclusive takes a look at the issue.

In the story, researchers from the VA Maryland Health Care System in Baltimore and Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY, examined the relationship between RT retake rates on DR systems and the quality of the images they produced as rated by radiologists.

While you may or may not be surprised at the results, the researchers said the findings indicate the need for a more standardized and documented system of quality assurance in digital radiography. Get the rest of the story by clicking here.
