Medical imaging firm Analogic of Peabody, MA, saw revenue drop 9% for its third quarter of fiscal 2009 (end-April 30), but the firm also enjoyed growth in net income.
For the period, Analogic posted revenue of $93.6 million, compared with revenue of $102.7 million in the corresponding quarter of 2008. Sales in the company's medical imaging business fell 15% to $50 million, due to weakness in the healthcare capital equipment market.
Sales in the company's digital radiography segment were a bright spot, rising to $10.3 million compared to $1.6 million in the same period of 2008. The growth was driven by sales of the company's breast tomosynthesis-ready amorphous selenium digital detectors to a major imaging OEM.
Revenue in the company's BK Medical Systems business was $19.2 million, down 15% compared with $22.7 million in the third quarter of 2008. Revenue was negatively impacted by currency exchange rates and the delay in customer orders in anticipation of the division's new Flex Focus scanner.
Analogic posted net income of $2.3 million, compared with net income of $1.4 million in the same period of 2008.
