Philips rolls out 3D navigation software

Philips Healthcare has launched its new VesselNavigator live 3D catheter navigation software to guide minimally invasive treatment of vascular diseases, such as aortic aneurysms.

VesselNavigator fuses live images from Philips' interventional x-ray systems with preacquired 3D MRI or CT images of the patient's vascular structures. The resulting 3D color-coded images of the vessels provide enhanced real-time visual guidance to maneuver through the vascular network without the need to enhance the x-ray visualization with the repeated use of an injected contrast medium.

Philips developed the navigation system with clinical partners, such as the University Hospital Cologne in Germany and the University Hospital Ghent in Belgium.

VesselNavigator is pending 510(k) clearance by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
