EOS acquires rights to scoliosis software

Orthopedic digital imaging developer EOS Imaging has acquired an exclusive, worldwide license for software to determine prognosis for adolescent scoliosis using 3D and 2D clinical parameters.

The software's algorithm, developed by Montreal-based surgeons and engineers, uses several clinical parameters available in patient reports from the company's sterEOS workstation. The algorithm establishes a predictive score that measures the risk of a patient with an early, mild stage of scoliosis developing a more severe form of the condition. Preliminary data on the predictive score will be presented at the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) annual meeting in Minneapolis being held from September 30 to October 3.

A multicenter clinical study has been launched in eight centers equipped with EOS systems (in the U.S., Canada, France, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong) to measure the technology's ability to predict the risk of young patients with mild scoliosis later developing a severe deformity, the company said.

EOS Imaging is also involved in programs targeting the improvement of brace design using 3D information of the spine, rib cage, and patient body contours.
