Rivanna has secured a U.S. patent for new ultrasound-guided needle insertion technology for interventional procedures.
The patent (No. 11,432,801) covers a device that could enhance the feasibility, accuracy, and safety of precise needle insertion into organs, tumors, fluid collections, and blood vessels for the purpose of targeted biopsy, ablation, injection of therapeutics, fluid aspiration, and catheter placement, the company said.
The invention includes a dual-array multi-angle probe with arranged ultrasound and a detachable needle guide that keeps the needle aligned within the transducers' viewing planes, which enables real-time visualization of the needle's path, according to the firm.
