GE Healthcare has installed a trimodality PET/CT+MR system at Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital to help physicians manage certain diseases.
The PET/CT+MR system consists of two scanners, a mobile patient system, and an image registration application that runs on the company's Advantage Workstation. The setup allows a patient to be moved from the PET/CT scanner to the MRI system without changing positions on the table.
Rather than only imaging a patient at the beginning and end of a chemotherapy treatment, physicians may monitor patients more frequently to determine the efficacy of treatment, GE suggested, combining the soft-tissue contrast of MRI, metabolic data from PET, and anatomical references from CT.
