On the heels of its acquisitions of molecular breast imaging (MBI) assets from GE Healthcare and Dilon Diagnostics, SmartBreast has signed on FoxSemicon Integrated Technologies (FITI) to manufacture its new MBI systems.

FITI, which has also completed a substantial investment in SmartBreast, will manufacture SmartBreast's Eve Clear Scan e750 (formerly GE's Discovery NM750b system) and Eve Clear Scan e680 (formerly Dilon's D6800 system). SmartBreast purchased GE's Discovery NM750b MBI business assets on February 8 and Dilon's MBI technologies and patents in January.

SmartBreast said that the two companies will work together to develop and manufacture next-generation MBI systems, as well as integrate stereotactic MBI-guided biopsy and 3D-MBI technology. The firm said it's also beginning a $5 million seed financing round.
