The Society of Nuclear Medicine recently presented $65,000 in grants and awards for molecular imaging/nuclear medicine researchers and students.
Georges El Fakhri, Ph.D., M.Eng., of Brigham and Women's Hospital and staff physicist and assistant professor of radiology at Harvard Medical School in Boston received the Mark Tetalman Award, which provides $2,500 to a young investigator who is pursuing a career in molecular imaging/nuclear medicine.
The Mitzi and William Blahd, M.D., pilot research grant of $10,000 was awarded to Dr. Gary Ulaner of the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. Ulaner's research project was "PET and Bioluminescent Imaging of Telomerase Promoter Activity to Evaluate in Vivo Chemotherapy Response," according to the Reston, VA-based society.
Pilot research grants, each totaling $8,000 that support clinical and basic research by young investigators were given to Dr. Yiyan Liu of the New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ; Mi-Ae Park, Ph.D., of Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston; Xiankai Sun, Ph.D., at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas; and Dr. Shyam Srinivas at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
In addition, the SNM awarded six $3,000 grants to fellows and students at the society's midwinter educational symposium in Tampa, FL. Information and applications for the 2006 grant and award program can be found at the SNM Web site.
