Radiology benefits management firm National Imaging Associates (NIA) has launched a radiation calculator available on the Internet and as an app for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.
The new tools are designed to help consumers calculate and track radiation exposure from medical imaging to help limit unnecessary exposure, NIA said.
Consumers can input their age, gender, types of imaging tests received, and the area of the body for each test, and receive an estimate of their radiation exposure.
A Facebook app version of the radiation calculator is planned for release in the near future, according to the firm.
NIA is a subsidiary of Magellan Health Services.
