Respiratory motion monitoring technology developer Medspira has collaborated with Philips Healthcare to offer its Breath Hold interactive breath control monitoring system as an option with Philips' BrightView XCT SPECT/CT systems.
Thoracic and abdominal SPECT/CT studies are often affected by respiratory motion. Providing respiratory feedback during a CT exam potentially reduces motion artifacts without compromising imaging workflow, according to Philips.
Developed by Mayo Clinic physicians, Breath Hold enables patients to maintain a consistent breathing pattern during imaging exams. It combines an expandable bellows system and a pressure-sensitive transducer tube, which is wrapped around a patient's chest or stomach to measure changes in abdominal girth due to respiration, according to Medspira.
