Siemens Healthcare is launching a new low-dose CT option for its Inveon preclinical imaging scanner at this week's Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNM) meeting.
The company noted that in preclinical research, repeat exposure to radiation can cause unintended biological effects, such as damage to tumors or tissue, and could affect the results of an extended clinical trial. The new low-dose software option for Inveon CT improves the scanner's sensitivity, reducing CT exposure times and minimizing dose by as much as 20-fold. This lessens the effects of ionizing radiation in multimodality studies, particularly longitudinal studies, the company said.
The low-dose CT option is available for purchase on all new and existing Inveon preclinical scanners.
