GE debuts modular biopharmaceutical factory

GE Healthcare said it has rolled out KUBio, an off-the-shelf, modular biopharmaceutical factory.

Designed to save biopharmaceutical manufacturers time and money, KUBio's premade modules are assembled at a customer's chosen site to provide a fully functional bioprocessing facility, according to the vendor. The 1,200-m2 facility has a total planning, delivery, and construction time of 14 to 18 months, compared with the traditional 24 to 36 months required for typical factory construction, GE said.

The modules provide start-to-finish manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals, and initial facilities will be configured for manufacturing monoclonal antibodies. GE also plans to introduce modules for manufacturing other biopharmaceuticals.
