The assets of molecular imaging technology developer Spectrum Dynamics have been acquired by Biosensors International for approximately $51 million and the potential for additional payments based on certain performance criteria.
The two companies will create a joint venture to develop future noncardiac imaging applications.
Since 2004, Spectrum Dynamics has been developing imaging technology to provide high-resolution functional 3D images through its D-SPECT cardiac imaging system. The firm has more than 70 issued and pending patents, and its products have been approved for sale in markets including the U.S., Japan, Europe, and Canada. Regulatory clearance is pending in several other regions.
Biosensors expects the transaction to have a minimal effect on its 2014 fiscal-year financial results, with the potential to contribute moderate growth in earnings in the following fiscal year.
