The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) has announced the recipients of its 2013-2015 SNMMI Wagner-Torizuka Fellowship.
The two-year fellowship, founded in 2008 by the late Dr. Henry Wagner Jr. and the late Dr. Kanji Torizuka, PhD, is designed to provide training and experience in the fields of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging for Japanese physicians in the early stages of their careers.
The following individuals will receive an annual stipend of $24,000:
- Dr. Kenji Hirata, PhD, from Hokkaido University Graduate School of Medicine: His research focuses on oncology and neurology, particularly quantitative analysis for PET and its clinical application. Hirata is conducting research at the department of molecular and medical pharmacology at the David Geffen School of Medicine of the University of California, Los Angeles.
- Dr. Masamichi Ikawa, PhD, from the University of Fukui: Ikawa's field of interest is neurology, primarily clinical molecular imaging with PET to clarify the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders. Ikawa is studying at the Molecular Imaging Branch of the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health.
- Dr. Ryogo Minamimoto, PhD, from the National Center for Global Health and Medicine: Minamimoto's research interest is oncology, particularly using PET/CT to depict the kinetics of various diseases and drug development through kinetic analysis. Minamimoto is conducting research at the departments of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging at Stanford University School of Medicine.
