Zecotek settles Philips, Saint-Gobain lawsuits

Nuclear medicine firm Zecotek Photonics announced that its subsidiary, Zecotek Imaging Systems, has settled its patent infringement lawsuits against Philips Healthcare and Saint-Gobain.

The terms of the agreement were not disclosed and are confidential.

In February 2012, Zecotek Imaging Systems alleged the two companies infringed on Zecotek's patents on lutetium fine silicate (LFS) scintillation crystals used in PET imaging systems.

Zecotek's LFS scintillation crystals are characterized by their combined high light yield and ultrafast decay times. The company asserted that Saint-Gobain's LFS crystals infringed on Zecotek's patent and that Philips infringed by using those crystals in its PET scanners.

In a prepared statement, Dr. A.F. Zerrouk, chairman, president, and CEO of Zecotek Photonics, said Zecotek and Philips have "identified areas of cooperation in the field of medical imaging," and Zecotel looks " forward to establishing a meaningful business relationship with Philips."

Zecotek Imaging Systems and Saint-Gobain Ceramics & Plastics also reached an agreement to dismiss their pending lawsuit against each other.
