The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) has unveiled the recipients of its 2015-2017 SNMMI Wagner-Torizuka Fellowship.
The two-year fellowship, founded in 2008 by the late Dr. Henry Wagner Jr. and the late Dr. Kanji Torizuka, PhD, provides training and experience in the fields of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging for Japanese physicians in the early stages of their careers.
The 2015-2017 fellows are as follows:
- Dr. Kanae Kawai Miyake, PhD, from Kyoto University Hospital, is investigating the potential utility of high-resolution dedicated breast PET scanners in detailing functional/molecular distribution within a tumor, among other research interests. Miyake is studying at Stanford University School of Medicine.
- Dr. Yoshiro Itatani, PhD, of Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine, is focusing on several imaging modalities -- in particular, molecular targeted therapy and angiogenesis in the tumor microenvironment using fluorescent conjugated antibodies and radiopharmaceuticals. Itatani is conducting research at the University of California, San Diego.
- Dr. Takehiro Nakahara, of Gunma University Hospital, is researching the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Each recipient will receive an annual stipend of $24,000.
The program is sponsored by Nihon Medi-Physics of Japan and has graduated 20 fellows since its inauguration in 2008. Currently, six fellows are studying at host institutions across the U.S.
