Photonic technologies developer Zecotek Photonics has signed an agreement to supply lutetium fine silicate (LFS) scintillation crystals for PET cameras to EBO Optoelectronics of Shanghai.
Zecotek estimated that the three-year contract is worth more than $21 million, and it mandates that the supply of the LFS crystals will continue on a yearly basis after the initial three-year period unless both companies terminate the contract.
Recent changes in the Chinese regulatory landscape regarding imports of medical equipment have many OEMs looking to manufacture medical imaging equipment inside the country, according to the company. Zecotek believes the deal will help it capture a larger share of the PET scanner market.
EBO Optoelectronics is one of the largest crystal array producers and suppliers in China. The company's arrays are used in the Chinese PET imaging market.
