The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) has released its slate of officers for its 2022-2023 term, headed by Dr. Munir Ghesani as president.
Dr. Munir Ghesani.Named president-elect by SNMMI last year, Ghesani is chief of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging at Mount Sinai Health System and an associate professor of radiology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
Ghesani has chaired the society's government relations committee and the SNMMI/U.S. Food and Drug Administration task force and served as the advocacy domain chair for the SNMMI's Value Initiative. He has published 88 peer-reviewed journal articles and a book, Nuclear Medicine: A Case-Based Approach.
In addition to Ghesani's appointment, the SNMMI elected Dr. Helen Nadel as president-elect. Nadel is director of pediatric nuclear medicine at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford and a clinical professor of radiology at the Stanford School of Medicine in Stanford, CA.
Nadel's goals for her term from 2022 to 2023 include focusing on how nuclear medicine can be prepared for future health crises, what can be done to fast-track the development and approval of diagnostic and theranostic molecular imaging agents, and how to ensure diversity in all parts of the nuclear medicine family, according to the society.
Named vice president-elect is Cathy Sue Cutler, PhD, director of the medical isotope research and production program at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, New York. Among Cutler's top priorities will be securing appropriate funding for nuclear medicine services and providers, the SNMMI said.
