Fonar, GE ink technology, distribution deal

What a difference a few years make. Nearly three years after a long patent infringement dispute that ended with GE Medical Systems paying $128 million to MRI vendor Fonar, the two companies announced today an agreement to provide mutual access to each firm’s patented MR intellectual property. In addition, the agreement also grants GE rights to sell and distribute Melville, NY-based Fonar’s work-in-progress Stand-Up MRI technology. As part of the deal, Waukesha, WI-based GE will distribute Stand-Up MRI as its only offering designed primarily for full-body, weight-bearing MRI, according to the firms.
