Siemens Medical Solutions has formed a strategic alliance with New York University Medical Center. The deal features a seven-year agreement tapping the Iselin, NJ-based vendor as the exclusive supplier of radiology equipment for the hospital's diagnostic and interventional radiology programs.
The agreement covers 100 clinical imaging systems, as well as research units such as a 7-tesla MRI magnet, which will be housed at a new MR research facility located near NYU's mid-town Manhattan campus. NYU Medical Center Manhattan affiliate Hospital for Joint Diseases is also a party to the agreement, according to NYU.
Siemens values the equipment and services to be provided to NYU at over $110 million. Installation of all of the equipment and systems will take four years, according to the firm.
In other academic relationships, Siemens has also formed a partnership with Duke University Medical Center of Durham, NC, for cardiac MRI research. Duke has agreed to purchase two Magnetom Sonata MR systems for research, clinical use, and education of physicians on cardiac MRI. In addition, Siemens and Duke will partner on research and development and education, according to Siemens.
