Dear MRI Insider,
Oh Canada! Take a moment and think about how much our North American brethren have enriched our lives. Without their contributions, we wouldn't know the thrill of sudden death overtime in ice hockey; the usefulness of the polyethylene garbage bag (thanks to Harry Wasylyk of Winnipeg); the marital hijinks of Pamela Anderson-Lee-Kid Rock (born in Ladysmith, British Columbia); the lifesaving value of the pacemaker (invented by John Hopps at the University of Manitoba); and, my personal favorite, Lululemon yoga pants.
Once again, it seems Canada will be a pioneer in another field -- MR safety. The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care has issued recommendations to the government of Ontario that would make operational and physical safety standards at MR facilities a federal mandate. Speaking of which, the dog days of summer provide a splendid opportunity to catch up on other articles from our friends at Junk Architects, including one on magnet room finishes and another on the TV show "House."
From the brain to body mechanics, you'll also found the following stories in the MRI Digital Community:
- The spectrum of gray-matter abnormalities on T2-weighted relaxation MR
- How MR can predict neurodevelopmental outcomes in premature infants
- The merit of MR arthrography for femoroacetabular impingement
- MR's role in establishing a diagnosis of gluteal contracture
Finally, read about a prototype MR scanner that works without a magnet. It's an experimental project, for sure, but intriguing nonetheless.
