As clinical applications for MR scanners and head coils expand, so are manufacturers' revenues.
In a new report, market research and consulting firm Frost & Sullivan estimates the total value of the MRI market in the U.S. as $1.4 billion in 2005.
Most of that figure was produced by scanner sales, while revenues generated by coil sales to OEMs totaled approximately $118.2 million last year. OEMs account for 60% to 70% of revenues for coil manufacturers, though many OEMs also produce their own coils in-house.
