Ultrasound, MR, and MR arthrography (MRA) are all accurate ways to assess recurrent rotator cuff tears, according to clinical findings to be presented by University of Michigan researchers.
The study, by presenter Dr. Qian Dong and colleagues, included 104 patients with recurrent or persistent symptoms after rotator cuff repair surgery between January 2004 and November 2013. The researchers reviewed ultrasound reports for 52 patients, MR reports for 63 patients, and MRA reports for 17 patients to determine whether recurrent rotator cuff tears were present, and they compared the imaging results with surgical reports.
The difference in the performance of ultrasound and MR was not statistically significant, the group concluded.
