Sonographer, heal thyself; make your MRI patients happier; mammo skeptics blast Congress

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

Sonographer, heal thyself. That's the message of our latest edition of Living Pain-Free, our ongoing series by echocardiographer Doug Wuebben and strength and conditioning coach Mark Roozen on fixing back pain among sonographers.

With this week's article, we address hip pain. Mobility in the hips is the key to better movement when sitting, squatting, and walking. But if we start to move through our lumbar spine instead, back pain can result.

Mr. Wuebben and Mr. Roozen provide exercises that sonographers can perform to improve hip mobility, and they shouldn't take up too much of your time -- just do several exercises two or three times a week. Learn more by clicking here, or visit our Ultrasound Community at ultrasound.auntminnie.com.

Make your MRI patients happier

In the emerging era of value-based healthcare, everybody wants happier patients, right? Well, researchers from Emory University came up with specific amenities to please patients waiting for MRI scans -- some that worked, and some that didn't.

For example, offering free Wi-Fi was a big hit for patients who wanted to check their phones while waiting; large-screen TVs are also popular in the MRI waiting room.

Not only did patients report higher satisfaction scores for their scanning experience, but they also believed their wait times were shorter. Learn more by clicking here or by visiting our MRI Community at mri.auntminnie.com.

Mammo skeptics blast Congress

Finally, visit our Women's Imaging Community for coverage of an angry missive published in the Journal of the American Medical Association by opponents of earlier mammography screening. The authors are unhappy with legislation passed by the U.S. Congress that preserves reimbursement for screening women in their 40s. That story is available by clicking here.
