Lantheus Medical Imaging and MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) developer Insightec have entered into an agreement under which Lantheus will provide Insightec with microbubbles to be used to evaluate treatment of glioblastoma and neurodegenerative conditions.
The microbubbles will be combined with Insightec's MRgFUS platform to deliver ultrasound energy deep in the brain, Lantheus said. The combination of microbubbles and focused ultrasound temporarily disrupts the blood-brain barrier, allowing for chemotherapeutic drugs to be delivered to glioblastoma patients, according to the firm.
Lantheus will supply the microbubbles and Insightec will handle regulatory submissions and marketing, Lantheus noted. The deal includes a transfer price and royalties.
