Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems has developed a new MRI-compatible titanium applicator as a more rigid alternative for brachytherapy treatment than existing plastic versions.
The device is being utilized for image-guided brachytherapy (IGBT) for improving treatments and outcomes for gynecological cancers at Aarhus University Hospital in Aarhus, Denmark, according to Palo Alto, CA-based Varian. The procedure involves the use of MRI scans and the planning capabilities of the company's BrachyVision treatment planning system, Varian said.
