ART lands Ga. AccuBoost install

Women's health firm Advanced Radiation Therapy (ART) and radiation oncology firm Nucletron have won a contract to install an AccuBoost breast brachytherapy system at a cancer center in Georgia.

John B. Amos Cancer Center in Columbus will install the AccuBoost system, which combines mammography imaging with localization capabilities of high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy to identify and treat lumpectomy sites while protecting a patient's organs.

The system combines shielded applicators from ART with HDR systems from Nucletron, enabling radiation oncologists to direct radiation directly to the tumor bed and away from the chest, reducing radiation dose to the lungs and heart to less than 10% of the prescription dose, according to the companies.
