A Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion stereotactic radiosurgery system from Elekta and an Artiste linear accelerator from Siemens Healthcare have been installed at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan.
The Gamma Knife will be used to treat brain tumors and other neurological conditions, with the ability to treat multiple brain metastases in a single therapy session.
The linear accelerator incorporates real-time image guidance to target tumors in the head and neck, lung, breast, abdomen, and prostate. In addition to being faster and more precise and offering greater customization than previous generations of linear accelerators, it can also reduce the length of radiation therapy treatment programs.
