Electromagnetic localization technology developer Calypso Medical Technologies is partnering with Zero, a nonprofit Washington, DC-based organization to end prostate cancer, to co-sponsor a series of fundraising 5K and 10K races in five cities.
The Great Prostate Cancer Challenge race series expects to include 15,000 participants and raise more than $1 million for advocacy and research for early detection and free testing activities.
Calypso and Zero, along with other sponsors, will help with events in Columbus, OH; Kansas City, KS; Memphis, TN; Oklahoma City; and an as-yet unnamed city in central Florida. The races will be held between September 11 and November 19.
More than 240,000 cases of prostate cancer are expected to be diagnosed this year, and more than 33,500 men are expected to die of the disease, according to statistics from the American Cancer Society.
