Respiratory motion monitoring technology developer Medspira has received a $2.3 million investment from a private venture group.
Based on technology developed by and licensed from the Mayo Clinic, Medspira's Breath Hold system allows physicians to compensate for the impact of breathing on lesion localization in the lungs and upper abdomen. By providing patients with instant feedback on their breathing cycle, Breath Hold can help them consistently produce the same breath-hold reference point, Medspira said.
The technology has applications in radiation therapy, image-guided biopsy, and other imaging-driven procedures, according to the firm. Medspira said it will use the new funding round to build upon the success of Breath Hold and bring additional medical technologies to market.
