Accuray introduces iPad app for CyberKnife

Radiation oncology firm Accuray has released PlanTouch software, an Apple iPad app to remotely review and approve patients' radiation treatment plans using the CyberKnife radiosurgery system.

PlanTouch is fully integrated with the CyberKnife system's data management and planning software. Physicians can use the app to review images, dose volume histograms, and isodose curves, and they can approve treatment plans directly from an iPad. PlanTouch has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Treatment planning displays are designed and formatted specifically for the iPad screen, the company said. Protections are in place to safeguard the privacy of patient information and to ensure that physicians are accessing and analyzing the correct treatment plan for each patient.

CyberKnife users can purchase a software license upgrade and download the app through the Apple App Store.
