ROI requests radiation therapy research proposals

The Radiation Oncology Institute (ROI) announced it is requesting proposals to examine the comparative value of radiation therapy.

ROI said it will provide support for one research project in the amount of $200,000 over two years. A letter of intent is due to ROI by June 21, with the full project proposal due on September 20.

ROI suggested possible research topics such as the following:

  • Assessing health-related quality of life and utilities for locoregional control and function preservation in disease sites
  • Analysis of productivity loss for patients and their caregivers associated with alternative approaches to definitive cancer care
  • Evaluating the comparative and/or cost-effectiveness of definitive radiation therapy modalities compared to surgical or other definitive approaches

ROI is a nonprofit foundation created in 2006 by the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) to support research and education to enhance and confirm the role of radiation therapy in cancer treatment.
