Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems and Siemens Healthcare will highlight new collaborations at next week's American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) annual meeting.
As part of their EnVision Better Cancer Care global strategic partnership, the companies will debut Varian Exchange, a new interface for connecting Varian's Aria oncology information system with Siemens' Artiste medical linear accelerators (still pending clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration).
Varian and Siemens already have an interface that connects Aria with Siemens' Oncor and Primus accelerators.
The two companies are also pairing Siemens' Somatom CT sliding-gantry scanner with Varian brachytherapy technology for 3D image-guided high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy procedures within a single treatment room.
In addition, the companies will demonstrate the interoperability of a Siemens CT scanner with Varian's Real-time Position Management (RPM) system. Siemens' new Biograph mCT Flow PET/CT scanner also works in conjunction with Varian's RPM system.
