Brachytherapy firm Cianna Medical is promoting the latest clinical results for its Strut-Adjusted Volume Implant (SAVI) applicator for accelerated partial-breast irradiation at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Breast Cancer Symposium (BCS) in San Francisco.
Researchers from the SAVI Collaborative Research Group reported five-year results for the first 100 patients treated with the SAVI applicator. They found that the device produced low rates of local recurrence and toxicity, as well as excellent cosmetic outcomes, according to the company.
Local control was similar to published results for whole-breast irradiation, with better toxicity rates and cosmetic outcomes due to the highly targeted radiation delivered by the device, Cianna reported.
