ASTRO, AANS to launch stereotactic radiosurgery registry

The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) plan to launch a stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) patient registry, ASTRO announced at its annual meeting in San Francisco.

The registry will outline national patterns of care in radiosurgery, with the goal of improving healthcare outcomes, supporting informed decision-making, and potentially lowering the cost of care for patients, ASTRO said. The project will gather deidentified SRS treatment information from 30 high-volume sites over the next three years.

The two organizations will lead the advisory committee that will provide oversight for the registry, including identifying and approving sites that will participate, developing a plan for data collection, managing data collection, developing and managing data analysis, and publishing the data, ASTRO said.

Image-guided therapy firm Brainlab is one of the first sponsors of the project, according to ASTRO.
