Mevion delivers proton accelerator to DC hospital

Proton therapy developer Mevion Medical Systems has delivered a superconducting synchrocyclotron proton accelerator to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.

One of only eight in existence, the accelerator will become the core of the hospital's Mevion S250 proton therapy system, according to the vendor. Installation will take approximately 10 months, with the first proton therapy patient expected to be treated at MedStar Georgetown in early 2017, Mevion said.
